The piece goes through the four humors described by the ancient Greek medicine theory, representing them softly through the melodic inflexions and timbres. Starting from the disequilibrium (Discrasia) and heading to the harmony (Eucrasia), each intermediary section of the piece is marked by a humor.
I. Melancholic (cello, cleavers and woodblocks): Sad and taciturn.
Element: Earth.
II. Choleric (violin, snare drum, tom-tom drum and surdo drums):
Aggressive and strict. Element: Fire.
III. Phlegmatic (clarinet, conga and bongo drum): Rational and impassive.
Element: Water.
IV. Sanguine (flute and cymbals): Happy and affectionate. Element: Air.
