Signo Sopro II (memória, a mãe das musas)
Once, my friend and poet Dirceu Villa sent me his book Icterofagi, a book of poems written between 2002 and 2006. Right after I started reading it I came across the poem “memória, mãe das musas” (or memory, mother of muses). I read this poem over and over again until I realize there was music in its words, better, there was music in its structure or its structure was very musical. So I decided to translate the poem into sounds: each verse, each word, the semantics game, the hidden commas… each silence in the inner pulsation of the poem. From this necessity, this piece was born, with the same musical structure of Dirceu’s poem, with its game of signs and textures, which were represented by the hidden plan in the words, but also present in me in each reading. The musicians not only play their own instruments, but they also play small percussion instruments (cymbals, triangles and shakers), distributed to enhance acoustics and blended with percussion.
