PLURAL MUSIC

Magnificent work by Ricardo Bologna, with his Ensemble Percorso, in this exquisite CD presenting the Brazilian music post-Neue Musik, while it is still a consequence of this historical European movement. The unity between these new Brazilian composers is impressive, as if they were one single composer. I shall not mention only one of them. They could all feel applauded with great enthusiasm. I had already met some of them, from Festival Música Nova.

It is interesting to notice as the old neue Musik, which was basically about the strict arrangement of old musical note, has been replaced, in its dialectic development, by new inspired music, made of stains, splinters, stretching sonorities, a sometimes soft flow of blatant timbre complications. In a certain way, it is a new, but intricate musical impressionism. Curiously, not a bit melodic, not similar at all to the opposed North-American trend, nothing that could remind us of John Adams or Philip Glass. Is it the choice of a different road for the very new Brazilian music?

A few records, such as this one, define so well, represent so well a present music trend.
